EL MARAÑÓN DEVELOPS A WORLD-FIRST CELLULAR TREATMENT TO PREVENT TRANSPLANT REJECTION

22 July 2021

Researchers from the Immuno–regulation Laboratory at Hospital Gregorio Marañón, responsible for this pioneering treatment based on cell therapy, presented the results of their research today, following more than six years of work under the direction of Rafael Correa.

This new technique using Treg cells from thymic tissue (thyTreg) aims to prevent organ rejection and ultimately eliminate the use of immunosuppressive drugs. As the patient's own cells are used, side effects are minimal, which also improves the quality of life of the transplant recipient. This therapy could be implemented in our hospitals in the short term. More information
