Remote exercise for children with cystic fibrosis: IiGSM joins the FIQMODE project

This multicentre study, coordinated by Dr Margarita Pérez Ruiz from the ImFINE group at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, involves several hospitals in Madrid’s public healthcare network (Niño Jesús, La Paz, Ramón y Cajal and Gregorio Marañón) and collaborating universities. The project’s main objective is to optimise exercise prescription in the new therapeutic context created by CFTR modulator drugs.

To date, 50 paediatric patients with cystic fibrosis have been recruited, 24 of whom have already completed a virtual strength training programme. The intervention, individualised and supervised in real time, has proven to be a safe and potentially effective alternative for improving these patients’ muscular health and quality of life, without interfering with pharmacological treatment.

Through the Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria Gregorio Marañón (IISGM), Hospital Gregorio Marañón is thus reinforcing its commitment to translational research and therapeutic innovation in chronic paediatric diseases, putting its expertise in rehabilitation at the service of a pioneering intervention in the field of telemedicine and exercise as a therapeutic tool.
