The Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria Gregorio Marañón celebrates its 12th Annual Research and Innovation Conference

54 presentations were delivered to more than 200 attendees, and eight awards were presented.

The Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria del Hospital Gregorio Marañón (IiSGM) has held the 12th edition of its annual Research and Innovation Conference. On this occasion, 54 presentations were delivered to more than 200 attendees over the two days into which the event was divided, during which the organisation presented data that establishes it as one of the Institutes with the highest growth rate in terms of the quality and quantity of knowledge generated nationally.

This forum provided an opportunity to share research and innovation experiences and results within the framework of the Institute, both with the research community and with the general public. In addition, the director of the Fundación para la Investigación Biomédica del Hospital Gregorio Marañón (FIBHGM), Teresa Fernández, presented the organisation's financial results.

The scientific director of the IiSGM, Constancio Medrano, highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong connection between patients, the Marañón Research Institute and society. In this regard, he emphasised the role of the healthcare centre in fostering and promoting research and innovation through communication and scientific outreach.

In addition to presenting the usual awards, this year the Best Research and Innovation in Healthcare Management Presentation was awarded, included as a new category among the distinctions presented to recognise the research work carried out by the organisation.

Specifically, an open science forum for the public was held, where secondary school students, patient associations and people from different backgrounds were able to exchange ideas and learn more about cancer, genetics and its prevention through healthy lifestyle habits.

Alongside the heads of the Institute and the hospital's Foundation, the opening of the conference was led by Inmaculada Ibáñez, director general of Research and Teaching at the Consejería de Sanidad de la Comunidad de Madrid; Manuel Cuenca, deputy director general of Research Evaluation and Promotion at the Instituto de Salud Carlos III; and Sonia García San José, managing director of the Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón.

To mark the occasion, he was presented with a commemorative plaque honouring his tenure at the head of the hospital's Institute between 2015 and 2024.

The invited lecture was given by Gloria Villar, director of the Unidad Técnica de Apoyo a Proyectos Europeos (UTAPE) of the Servicio Madrileño de Salud, who reflected with attendees on how research at European level is an attainable challenge.

Attendees also had the opportunity to take part in a round table on nursing research, moderated by Nieves Moro, head of the IiSGM Nursing research group and head of the Research Support Unit.
