25/01 CALL FOR COLLABORATION CHALLENGES (MINECO)

The Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness published the RETOS-COLABORACIÓN Call on 25 January 2016, aimed at promoting experimental development projects in collaboration between companies and research organisations. The application period will open on 9 February, closing on 7 March. The duration of the projects: will be at least until 31 December 2017 and at most until 31 December 2019. The minimum project budget must be at least €500,000. The aid is paid in advance.   Requirements:

  • The lead applicant will be a company.
  • Participation by a public organisation is compulsory
  • Budget distribution:
    • Each entity must account for a minimum of 10% and a maximum of 70% of the total budget
    • Companies must account for a minimum of 60% in total
    • Public organisations may account for a maximum of 40% of the total
Objective: the aid is intended to finance experimental development projects, in collaboration between public and private research centres and companies, with the aim of promoting research geared towards solving societal challenges through the development of new products and services. Types of aid: Funding for companies: Loans at Euribor of up to 95% of the budget. (10-year repayment term, 7 years for repayment and 3 years' grace period)
  • They must provide guarantees: 25% of the total (only if it reaches €200,000 or if the total loan for the entire project reaches €1 million)
  • Grant for SMEs:
    • Only in Andalusia, the Canary Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, Ceuta, Extremadura, Galicia, Melilla, the Principality of Asturias and the Region of Murcia.
      • the company must declare that it will carry out the entire project in one of the regions indicated.
      • the company's registered office does not have to be in that Autonomous Community
      • among other requirements, the personnel charged to the project must be assigned to the workplace in these regions
      • The other consortium partners (public entities, for example) may be from anywhere in Spain
    • 60% grant if it is a small company and 50% grant if it is a medium-sized company
  • Eligible costs:
    • Staff
    • Equipment (depreciation costs of new and used equipment)
    • Computer software
    • Materials (R&D&I only)
    • Auditor's report
    • Travel
    • Consultancy: €10,000/year
    • Patents
Funding for research organisations: Grant with the possibility of a repayable advance of up to 100% for public organisations (marginal costs).

    • Existing staff
    • Conferences
    • Publications
  • Eligible costs:
    • Newly recruited staff
    • Audit
    • Travel (excluding conferences)
    • Materials
    • Software
    • Purchase of equipment dedicated exclusively to the project
